Eagle Ray: A New Ceramic Wall Light Inspired by the Ocean

The ocean has always been one of the greatest sources of inspiration for KUST. Its mysterious creatures, fluid shapes, and endless shades of blue continually find their way into our ceramic art. Today, we are introducing our newest creation—the Eagle Ray ceramic wall light.

The Grace of an Eagle Ray Captured in Ceramics

Eagle rays seem to fly through the water. Their wide, graceful fins move like wings, while their spotted bodies resemble a fragment of the night sky. This feeling of effortless movement inspired the sculptural silhouette of our new wall light.

The ceramic Eagle Ray appears to glide across the wall, transforming it into an underwater landscape. Its deep blue glazed surface reflects the light differently throughout the day, revealing the handmade relief, delicate lines, and tiny raised details inspired by the ray’s natural pattern.

A Sculpture by Day, an Atmospheric Light by Night

Even when switched off, the Eagle Ray is a striking piece of ceramic wall art. Its glossy glaze, sculptural texture, and dynamic form make it a focal point in any interior.

When illuminated, dozens of hand-cut openings allow warm light to shine through the ceramic body. Each point of light resembles sunlight filtering through the ocean or distant stars glowing in deep water. The result is soft, atmospheric illumination that adds depth and a sense of wonder to the room.

Every Eagle Ray wall light is handcrafted from stoneware in our ceramic studio in Kyiv, Ukraine. The form is carefully shaped and refined by hand before its surface is decorated with relief details. Each opening is individually created to form a unique constellation of light.

After drying, the sculpture goes through multiple firings and glazing processes that give the surface its rich ocean-blue color and glossy finish. Because every stage involves handwork and the unpredictable nature of ceramics, no two Eagle Rays will ever be completely identical.
