Viktor Kushchenko Founder’s Story

My journey into ceramics began when I was eight years old, and it started with a fascination for archaeology. What drew me in so deeply was the idea that ceramics had survived for thousands of years as one of the main carriers of information about ancient cultures and civilizations. Through fragments of clay, people today can still read stories about daily life, beliefs, rituals, beauty, and human imagination from worlds long gone.

That idea stayed with me. I became captivated by the thought that clay is never just a material — it is memory, history, and a way of speaking across time.

Years later, this childhood fascination grew into my life’s work. Ceramics became not only my craft, but my language. Today, through KUST, I create pieces that combine sculpture, light, texture, and emotion — objects that carry both artistic expression and a sense of story.

For me, every ceramic piece is part of a much longer human tradition: the desire to leave a trace, to shape meaning by hand, and to turn fragile material into something lasting.

CUSTOM PROJECTS

custom works can take the form of sculptural lighting, ceramic art objects, decorative pieces, or deeply personal gifts — each one designed and made with a unique idea in mind.

I approach every commission as a dialogue: translating a feeling, story, or visual concept into a ceramic object with its own character, texture, and presence. From the first concept to the final handcrafted piece, each project is developed individually and with great attention to detail.

If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind ceramic piece created especially for you, I would be happy to discuss a custom commission.

Inside the Studio

At KUST, the studio is more than a place of production — it is where material, imagination, and story come together in ceramic form. Based in Kyiv, Ukraine, KUST creates handmade sculptural lamps, figurines, and art objects inspired by nature, animal forms, and expressive textures, while also nurturing a deeper culture of making through workshops and courses in ceramics.

The whale is adorable, beautifully rendered, shiny, and meticulously detailed—an absolute work of art. Unfortunately, it must have taken a beating during shipping. Although the packaging was extremely meticulous, I found it with a broken fin, but the seller immediately told me he'd send me another. Super kind and efficient. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves whales; it's truly elegant and a beautiful statue.

Beautiful piece of pottery. The colors of the whale I got were just as striking deep blue as seen in the photos. Lighter than expected but still very well crafted. If you feel inclined you could easily wire in your bulb but comes with a pluggable led cord that slots in at the bottom. Overall a great statement piece.

Created for the 3rd Army Corps

Clay in Service of Freedom

This project brings together my artistic practice and my service in the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As part of this service, I develop and create ceramic works for the 3rd Army Corps, where art becomes a form of support and resistance. All profit from the sale of these pieces goes directly to support the 3rd Army Corps. The concept of this project is built on the meeting of Ukrainian folk imagery and the modern history of Ukraine being shaped today on the front line. In these works, I combine traditional symbols, archetypes, and cultural memory with the strength, pain, and resilience of the present. By purchasing these ceramics, you do more than collect a handmade object — you directly support Ukraine’s resistance against Russian aggression and stand with those defending our country.

About

Sculptural Ceramic Wall Art

These decorative ceramic wall panels are inspired by the landscapes of the Earth and shaped through my study of satellite images of coastlines, islands, craters, and shifting terrains. Translated into clay, these forms become tactile ceramic wall art that moves between abstraction, topography, and sculptural relief.

Each handmade ceramic wall panel is created in my studio in Kyiv, Ukraine, and designed as a piece of sculptural ceramic wall decor for interiors, collectors, and architectural spaces. Ideal for those seeking unique ceramic wall panels, textured ceramic art, and one-of-a-kind decorative ceramics inspired by nature and landscape.

About

Weightlessness: Abstract Ceramic Lamps

Weightlessness is a project of abstract ceramic lamps in which I explore the expressive possibilities of ceramic construction, balance, perforation, and sculptural light. Each piece is created by hand as an experiment in form — where volume, void, rhythm, and structure come together in objects that appear unstable, floating, or suspended in motion.

In this series, I work with handmade ceramic lighting as both sculpture and atmosphere. Twisting lines, layered elements, and openwork surfaces allow light to move through the form, turning each ceramic lamp into a living composition of shadow, texture, and glow. These works are less about fixed geometry and more about tension, flow, and the feeling of material overcoming its own weight.

Created in my studio in Kyiv, Ukraine, these abstract ceramic lamps are designed for collectors, art lovers, and interiors that seek unique ceramic lighting, sculptural lamps, and one-of-a-kind handmade decor. Weightlessness is an exploration of how clay can become light, movement, and structure at once.

KUST CERAMICS

KUST is a ceramic studio and artist-led brand rooted in Kyiv, Ukraine, where sculptural objects, lamps, and figurative pieces are shaped by hand with a strong connection to nature, material, and story. Across the brand’s work, ocean creatures, animal forms, textured surfaces, and sculptural lighting have become central motifs, while clay remains the core language through which each idea takes form.

The studio brings together both artistic production and a living ceramic practice. Alongside handmade objects for collectors and interiors, KUST has also developed workshops and courses that invite people into the process of making, from first contact with clay to finished fired work. This educational side is an important part of the studio’s identity and reflects a broader vision of ceramics as something to be shared, experienced, and lived.

Our designs

Every piece begins in the studio — through sketching, sculpting, glazing, firing, and refinement — with an emphasis on handmade character, tactile detail, and expressive form. KUST describes its work as made with love, natural clay, and ecologically clean glazes, while the wider brand vision is centered on inspiring people to live more creatively through art, objects, and direct experience with ceramics.
